Apple is known around the world for their trendsetting high tech products. Now that iPhones and iPads have become so ubiquitous, many people are wondering about the future of the iPod line, particularly the iPod Touch 5G. Numerous advancements have been made in mobile device technology, but to many people, the iPod line seems like it is stuck in an earlier time.

Not too long ago, the iPod was what made Apple ridiculously trendy and popular. It is not difficult to remember a time when televisions showed iPod ads during every commercial break. These ads were notable for featuring silhouetted dancers grooving to cutting edge tunes while showing off their white earbuds. These days, the iPod has definitely taken a backseat to its newer siblings in the Apple product lineup – the iPad and the iPhone.

Traditionally, Apple stages an iPod “event” every October, and rumors seem to indicate that such an event will take place this year, as well. The company has chosen October for its close proximity to the holiday shopping season, and it is during this time of the year that Apple traditionally outsells its competitors by a large margin in the portable music and gaming device market. This year, consumers are curious about what changes might be in store for the iPod line, and many of them are anxiously awaiting the iPod Touch 5th generation. Now that iPhones do everything iPods can do and much more, it will be interesting to see what Apple has planned for their once dominant iPod line. There is not much known at this time, but some information has been leaked.

Ipod Touch 5g - The Latest News Of The New Ipod Touch 5th GIpod Touch 5G Specifications

Release Date

The iPod Touch 5G release date is thought to be a week after a special announcement from Apple that will take place on October 5th, 2011. That puts the release date on October 12th, 2011. It is believed that in addition to the iPod Touch 5G, Apple will announce a new version of the iPhone on October 5th, as well.

Size

Not much is known about any changes in size for the iPod Touch 5G. It is hoped that Apple’s designers will find a way to make the device thinner, but that might be a challenge considering that the device is barely large enough now to fit a standard mini headphone jack. It is likely that the new iPod will retain its length and width dimensions, but to make the device any thinner, it would probably need a completely new redesign, and it does not seem like Apple has any plans to give the iPod a complete overhaul at this time.

iPod Touch Bluetooth

One way that Apple’s designers could make the iPod Touch thinner would be to integrate Bluetooth technology so that wireless headphones could be used. The iPod Touch 5G will eliminate the need to physically connect to a computer for syncing purposes, and many people are hoping that the new priority on wireless connectivity means that Bluetooth headphones will be compatible with the next generation device. Unfortunately, it is not known at this time what level of Bluetooth connectivity Apple plans for its new iPod.

The Screen

The most notable feature of the iPod Touch 5G is, of course, its touchscreen. Another improvement that is hoped for by many iPod enthusiasts is a larger screen. Currently, the iPod’s screen size is 3.5” measured diagonally. It is not known whether the screen will be larger on the new version of the device, but judging from pictures leaked online, the size of the screen will remain the same.

Storage

Currently, the 4th Generation iPod Touch features either a 16GB or 32GB Flash drive. This is enough for most people to store at least a day’s worth of music and videos, plus it allows room for games and other applications which can be downloaded. Excitingly, there have been rumors stating that Apple plans to increase this capacity for its next generation iPod. The latest information leaked online claims that the new device could have a storage capacity of up to 128GB, which is four times the amount of space offered on the most advanced current model. While more storage might not be necessary for many users, it will be most welcome for iPod power users.

The iPod Touch 5G is on its way, and it may or may not revolutionize the product line, depending on the features you are looking for and expecting. There is no doubt, however, that it will offer an improvement over the previous model. It is up to you to determine whether the new version will be worth it. One thing to keep in mind is that when the new device is released, the price of the 4th generation iPod Touch is sure to decrease. This is a terrific way to obtain a cheap iPod Touch, especially if the new features do not appeal to you. More information is expected to be made available as the release date approaches, so keep tuned for more details on the iPod Touch 5G.
